Discrete-Time Dispatchable Virtual Oscillator Control

For the operation of converter-dominated networks with low inertia, many grid-forming controllers have been proposed. This paper presents a new variant of the dispatchable virtual oscillating grid-forming control that incorporates a normal form of the supercritical Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. The advantage of this nonlinear oscillator is that it is already formulated in discrete time and does not need to be discretized. Therefore, it is a promising candidate facilitating its real-time hardware implementation. This paper explores the adaptation of the dispatchable virtual oscillator and studies additional steps for hardware implementation, such as the signal quantization. The grid-forming controller is tested for different scenarios, indicating the desired behavior similar to existing continuous-time grid-forming controllers, such as a virtual synchronous machine.
