Addicted to Deaddiction: Myocardial Infarction in a Young Patient with Nicotine Gum Abuse
A BSTRACT Smoking and nicotine abuse are a major cause of myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke. Nicotine replacement therapy in the form of gums or patches is the first line in deaddiction. Many studies described successful cessation of smoking with less side effects from this strategy. We encountered a young male with MI who was initiated on nicotine replacement but was consuming nicotine gums in doses far excess than recommended.
