Serum Lipid Levels in Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy
Aim: Diabetic retinopathy is one of the most common microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to investigate the association between DR and dyslipidemia. Methods: This retrospectively designed study included 1363 individuals: 352 patients with type 2 diabetes and retinopathy, 553 patients with type 2 diabetes without retinopathy, and 457 healthy individuals. There were 202 and 150 patients with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), respectively. The groups were compared according to their demographic properties, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and serum fasting glucose levels. MedCalc 15.8 (MedCalc Belgium) was used for the statistical analysis. Results: The groups were similar in terms of age and sex (p>0.05). Serum HDL levels were lower in patients with DR than in those without retinopathy (p
