Value Creation of PtX Systems in Balancing Inflexible Power Grids
Power grids with a large share of power consumption covered by the renewable generation are facing power system balance issues due to a low level of flexible capacity. This paper examines how Power-to-X (PtX) systems, which incorporate large-scale, long-duration hydrogen storage, can be utilized for the power system balance. The preliminary results showcase significant balancing contributions through temporal and volume shifts of the generation and consumption profiles of PtX system. They also highlight the critical role of the large-scale, long-duration hydrogen storage as a source of flexible capacity, that can also enable the future renewable integration plans.
