Indwelling Pleural Catheter for Management of Malignant Ascites: A Case Report
Malignant ascites (MA) is a frequent cause of morbidity and poor quality of life (QOL) for many advanced cancer patients. It needs repeated paracentesis and is a cause of multiple hospital visits, procedure-related complications, and significant financial burden.Indwelling pleural catheter (IPC) is frequently used to drain recurrent malignant pleural effusions. Its use for peritoneal drainage has been scarcely reported and is beneficial for symptom management, avoiding the hazards and complications of multiple procedures. Here, we report the first case of indwelling peritoneal catheter (IPeC) insertion in Malaysia for palliation in a case of MA due to adenocarcinoma lung.
