A Review on Shortening the Cooling Time of Injection Mould
Abstract: Injection molding is a vital technique in the global mass production of plastic products. One of the most effective strategies for reducing cycle time in plastic injection molding is minimizing the cooling phase, which offers the greatest opportunity to shorten the overall production cycle. This, in turn, enhances production efficiency and lowers the overall cost of the final product. A review of the literature reveals that many researchers have successfully reduced injection molding cycle times by decreasing the cooling time. This has been achieved primarily by modifying core/cavity plate materials and optimizing the design of cooling channels within the core and cavity plates of the mold. According to existing studies, commonly used materials for manufacturing inserts in core and cavity plates include P20 tool steel, aluminium, and beryllium copper. Among these, beryllium copper exhibits the highest thermal conductivity, making it the most effective for rapid heat transfer during the cooling phase.
