Cohomological Invariants and Spectral Convergence of Tomita-Takesaki Modular Flows in the Discrete Approximation of Non-Commutative Neural Manifolds
Mathematical Applications of Science Fiction We investigate the asymptotic behavior of deep neural networks modeled as discrete approximations of non-commutative Riemannian manifolds. By treating the weight space as a sequence of finite-dimensional ( C^* )-algebras converging to a hyperfinite Type III(_1) von Neumann factor, we invoke Tomita–Takesaki theory to analyze the intrinsic dynamics of the learning process. We define the Neural Modular Flow via the modular automorphism group ( \sigma^\phi_t ) associated with a faithful normal state ( \phi ) representing the network’s loss landscape. Our primary contribution is a rigorous proof of the spectral convergence of the modular operators ( \Delta_n ) associated with the discrete layers to the continuous modular operator ( \Delta_\infty ), in the strong resolvent sense. Furthermore, we construct the Connes–Chern character for the associated spectral triple ( (A, H, D) ) and demonstrate that specific cyclic cohomology classes ( HC^n(A) ) remain invariant under the modular flow, providing topological obstructions to over-smoothing in the infinite-depth limit. These results suggest that the “consciousness” of the network, defined as the preservation of coherent information across the modular flow, is a cohomological invariant of the underlying non-commutative geometry.
