The Effect of Tarantula Cubensis Alcoholic Extract Against Indomethacin-Induced Oxidative Liver and Kidney Damage in Albino Rats.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of a single dose of indomethacin on the oxidant and antioxidant systems of the liver and kidneys and to determine whether the alcoholic extract of Tarantula Cubensis has a protective role against these effects of indomethacin. Methods: In the study, rats were divided into 6 groups as control group I, control group II, indomethacin group I (25mg/kg indomethacin), indomethacin group II, indomethacin+TCAE (25mg/kg indomethacin+200 µg/kg TCAE) group I and indomethacin+TCAE group II due to measurements after 6 hours and on the 3rd day (n=7). For biochemical analysis, liver and kidney tissues were taken from euthanized rats 6 hours after and on the 3rd day of indomethacin and TCAE administration to rats, and MDA, GSH, SOD, GPx, CAT, total sulfhydryl and AOPP levels were determined by spectrophotometric method. Results: As a result, TCAE prevented tissue damage by preventing the increase in the levels of oxidant parameters (MDA, total sulfhydryl, AOPP) caused by indomethacin in the liver and kidney tissue after 6 hours and on the 3rd day. In addition, increases in the levels of antioxidant parameters (GSH, CAT) due to oxidative damage could be prevented because TCAE application prevented oxidative damage. However, it was determined that TCAE could not prevent the decrease in GPx levels caused by indomethacin. Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that TCAE protects the liver and kidney against oxidative damage caused by indomethacin.
