Hydrocephalus Delivery – A Tough Decision
Neural tube defects are not rare fetal malformations, and most of them can be picked up on anomaly scan done during the second trimester and termination offered. Sometimes, the cases are diagnosed late due to various reasons and the decision of management becomes difficult; hydrocephalus if diagnosed late is one such condition. The decision is to be taken jointly, and one may have to resort to cephalocentesis to reduce the size of fetal head to achieve normal vaginal delivery. Cephalocentesis is one destructive operation which has a role in practice of obstetrics in present times. Neural tube defects are preventable by periconception administration of folic acid.
