Investigation of the Pozzolanic Properties of Wastewater Treatment Sludge Ash: A Study on Multicyclone and Bag Filter Ash Samples

Increasing waste owing to industrialization and urbanization threatens environmental sustainability and necessitates alternative disposal methods. In this study, the usability of ash obtained by the incineration of water treatment sludge as a pozzolan in construction materials was investigated. Within the scope of this study, the pozzolanic properties of two different waste sludge ashes, Multicyclone and Bag Filter, obtained from the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (BUSKİ) East Wastewater Treatment Plant, were evaluated by performing flexural and compressive strength tests in accordance with the TS 25 (2008) standard. The fact that the data obtained in this study exceeded the limit values of 1 MPa for flexural strength and 4 MPa for compressive strength in the TS 25 (2008) standard showed that waste sludge ash can be used as a pozzolan in building materials and has the potential to be evaluated as an alternative raw material for sustainable building materials.
