Using digital technologies and 3D cephalometric analysis in orthodontic treatment planning and facial aesthetics assessment

Despite many studies, the diagnosis and treatment planning of patients with mesial occlusion remains relevant today. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the possibilities of using digital diagnostic methods to diagnose patients with gnathic mesial occlusion using clinical example. Materials and methods. The article presents treatment protocol of a patient with mesial occlusion using orthodontic-surgical method of treatment. Before treatment, the main angular parameters of 2D-cephalometry were: SNA=77.2°, SNB=80.1°, ANB=-2.9°, U1/SN=106.9°, U1/PP=113.8° L1/MP=87.3°; as a result of treatment, their improvement was found to be: SNA=81.2°, SNB=80.2°, ANB=-1°, U1/SN=103.7°, U1/PP=111.8°, L1/MP= 93.3°. Results. As a result of treatment, the main angular and linear parameters of 3D-anthropometry improved and were: po R — sn=122.9 mm, po L — sn =124 mm, 2D po — sn=103.9 mm, po R — ul=132 mm, po L — ul=131.3 mm, 2D po — ul=113.4 mm, po R-Sellion (n)-sn=85.37°, po L-Sellion (n)-sn=85.95°, Sellion (n)-sn-pg=170°, gl-sn-pg=173.4°, col-sn-ul=105°. Conclusion. There are shown possibilities of using computer technologies, as well as new innovative method of facial aesthetics assessment, which play an important role in the complex examination of patients. It allows to carry out more accurate analysis and make a final diagnosis before orthodontic treatment.
