THE EFFECT OF NURSING STUDENTS' SOCIOTELISM AND DIGITAL DEMENTIA CONDITIONS ON PATIENT CARING BEHAVIORS

Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of sociotelism and digital dementia on patient caring behaviors of nursing students. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 285 nursing students.. Data were collected by face-to-face interview method using "Descriptive Characteristics Form", " Phubbing Scale, Digital Dementia Assessment Form", "Caring Behaviors Inventory-24" to determine the demographic and individual characteristics of the students. Results: The total score of the Phubbing Scale was 28.39±6.0 and the total score of the Caring Behaviors Inventory was 4.84±0.67. It was determined that there was a significant correlation between Phubbing Scale phone obsession subscale and all other subscale and total scores of the Caring Behaviors Inventory except for the commitment subscale scores. Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that the students did not have sociotelism (phubbing) addiction according to their scores on the sociotelism scale; they rarely experienced forgetfulness, had difficulty in clinical practice due to forgetfulness, had loss of concentration due to the use of technological devices, and had difficulty in memorising drug and human names. The students' scores on the Care Behavior Inventory were found to be above average. It was found that the sociotelism status of the students affected their caring behaviors. This study demonstrates the importance of improving the patient caring behaviors of nursing students, who are the future nurses.
