Some Experiences in the Development of Industrialized Sustainable Construction Systems
Abstract The construction sector faces significant challenges in terms of sustainability. The need for decarbonization, resource efficiency, waste reduction, labor shortages, and increasing regulatory demands drive the development of more advanced, industrialized and sustainable construction systems. This paper presents a review of various experiences and research projects carried out in recent years by the Advanced and Sustainable Construction Research Group, focusing on the evolution of technologies and innovative materials for building construction. Pioneering cases of 3D printing applied to construction will be presented, such as Print’nBuild, 3D CONS, Hindcon and CEREA-3D projects, which have explored new possibilities for digital prefabrication and the use of clay as a reusable material for 3D printing. Additionally, thermal activation systems for façades and slabs, developed in the Inphase and Holedeck Active projects, will be discussed, aiming to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. Solutions based on permeable concrete panels with evaporative capacity and porous concretes implemented in the Cartuja Qanat project will also be introduced, designed to optimize thermal management in urban environments. Finally, other proposals related to sustainability in construction and assessment will be shared. The results highlight the need of advanced and sustainable construction as a response to challenges and opportunities in the sector.999
