Behavioral Features of a Multicomponent Hypereutectic Aluminum Alloy under Hot Three-High Radial-Shear Rolling

Hot three-high radial shear rolling (RSR) has been performed for the hypereutectic aluminum alloy Al–4 wt % of Ca–4 wt % of La–1 wt % of Mn–1wt % of Ni–5 wt % of Cu. It has been found that RSR leads to the formation of discontinuities along the entire central axis of the rod. RSR results in the mixing of dendrites and eutectic, and an increase in the homogeneity and dispersion level of the microstructure. After the RSR, the strength and ductility of the samples are 2 and 3.5 times higher, respectively, as to compare to the initial annealed state. The alloy after the RSR exhibits a yield strength ranging from 118 to 134 MPa, a tensile strength from 167 to 171 MPa, and a relative elongation from 7 to 9.5%. The yield strength of the material at the periphery of the rod is 12% greater, but the relative elongation is 36% less as to compare to the material in the middle of the rod radius.
