Genomic Predictors of Treatment Response in Substance Use Disorders
Substance use disorders (SUDs) are chronic, relapsing conditions with a significant global burden.Despite advances in pharmacological and psychosocial treatments, patient responses remain highly variable.Recent research into the genetic and genomic underpinnings of SUDs offers the potential for personalized medicine approaches. This paper reviews the current evidence on genomic predictors of treatment response in SUDs, explores candidate genes and genome-wide association studies, highlights methodological challenges, and discusses the future of precision psychiatry in addiction treatment.Understanding genetic influences could revolutionize treatment strategies, reduce relapse rates, and optimize resource allocation.
