Comparison between Threads Lifting and Carboxy Therapy in Double Chin Correction
Background: The correction of double chin deformity presents a considerable challenge in aesthetic medicine due to its multifactorial etiology and complex anatomical considerations. Objectives: This study aimed to compare safety and efficacy of threads and carboxy therapy in double chin correction. Methods: This randomized clinical trial enrolled eight female subjects were complaining of double chin. Subjects randomly allocated into two equal groups. Absorbable barbed polydioxanone (PDO) threads were inserted subcutaneously using a cannula to lift submental laxity in group I while group II received carboxy therapy session, once per week for 10 weeks. Standardized photographs and ultrasound measurement of subcutaneous fat thickness were used to evaluate outcomes before the procedure, one week following the procedure and 3 months post-procedure. Results: After 3 months 50.0% of cases were much enhanced and 25.0% were enhanced in group I, while in group II, 50.0% achieved much improved status and 25.0% were very much improved with insignificant difference between the 2 groups (p = 1.000). Conclusion: Barbed PDO threads and carboxy therapy were simple, quick and effective office procedure for double chin correction, although the effects tend to be temporary.
