Response extent of eleven olive genotypes to salt tolerance The response of eleven olive seedling genotypes to salinity tolerance

This study was conducted during 2022 and 2023 seasons at Horticulture Research Institute at Giza Governorate, Egypt to point out the border salinity tolerance of some olive genotypes to saline water irrigation expressed as to sodium chloride (NaCl) concentrations (5000 and 10000 ppm). Eleven olive genotypes were chosen including Shubrasino, Frantio, Arboquen, Arbosana, Cairo 7, Kronaki (52), Tofahi x Karetena (48), Tofahi x Kalamata (69), Tofahi x Arboquen (66), Manzanello (102) and Manzanello (97).The results indicated that irrigation with increasing levels of water salinity was accompanied by depressing all vegetative growth traits including transplant height, number of leaves per transplant, leaf area, number of laterals shoots and dry weights of top/root ratio. Regarding the effect of type genotype, the results cleared that the salt-tolerant Arbosana and 48 hybrid (Tofahi x Krotena) significantly recorded the highest values of these parameters. On the opposite side, the salt-sensitive Manzanello (102) and 66 hybrid (Tofahi x Arboquen) showed the lowest significance of these ones.
