An Unusual Case of Spontaneous Heterotopic Pregnancy after Bilateral Tubal Ligation
The simultaneous presence of intrauterine pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy is known as heterotopic pregnancy. It is a rare condition. With the gradual increase of artificial reproductive techniques (ARTs) in the treatment of infertility, the incidence of heterotopic pregnancy has shown a significant increasing trend all over the world. Most of the patients have a history of previous tubal surgery or tubal infection.Heterotopic pregnancy after a spontaneous pregnancy is very uncommon. Our patient had a tubal pregnancy after tubal sterilization first, and in her subsequent spontaneous pregnancy, she had a heterotopic pregnancy.Diagnosis and management of heterotopic pregnancy can be challenging and occasionally lead to significant morbidity or even mortality. We are fortunate that this case presented in a stable condition and had an uneventful recovery.
