Assessment of Post Procedural Outcomes between Endovenous Laser Ablation versus Adhesive Closure System Using VenaSeal™ in Treatment of Varicose Veins: A Retrospective Comparative Study
Background: Varicose veins are a common clinical condition impacting 20-30% of adult population, resulting from chronic venous insufficiency due to valvular incompetence. Given these potential consequences, effective treatment is essential to enhance patient outcomes and halt disease progression. Objective: The aim of this study was to improve lower limb varicose veins management and determine the best modalities to decrease complicaions. Patients and Methods: This retrospective, cross-sectional, comparative study included data of 62 patients presented with varicose veins, at Suez Canal University Hospitals, Ismailia, Egypt. They were cateogorized according to treatment option into two equal groups; group A (Endovenous Laser ablation (EVLA) group) and group B (VenaSeal group). Results: The incidence of reaction was significanlty increased in group A than group B at 1 week (P=0.011). Paraesthesia frequency was significanlty increased in group A than group B at 1 week and 1 month (P=0.010, 0.038). Group B had signifcntly lower pain at 1 week, 1, 3 and 6 months than group A (P<0.05). Echmoysis incidence was significanlty increased in group A than group B at 1 week and 1, 3 and 6 months (P<0.05). The prevalnce of phlebitis at 1 week was significantly increased in group B than group A (P=0.011). Conclusions: Both VenaSealTM and EVLA are reliable in varicose veins treatment, however VenaSealTM had provided decrease operation time, no pigmentation, earlier return to work and was better in postoperative pain levels, paraesthesia and echmoysis, also better overall satisfaction but still more expensive than EVLA.
