St. Rita Church in Mina El Basl, Alexandria (1881 AD): Historical, Descriptive, and Analytical Study
The Church of St. Rita was built in 1881 at 6 Karm El Moneer, Mina El Basl, Alexandria. It belongs to the Franciscan Order. This church is dedicated to St. Rita, Sister of the Impossible. The church exemplifies all the characteristics of Franciscan churches. This church is shaped like Noah’s Ark. It consists of a nave and two side aisles. This study uses a descriptive and analytical method to explain the church’s design and artistic features in detail. It also gives a full description of the building. The church has never been published before. This church can be added to the tourist programme in Alexandria. For the first time, the researcher sought the help of an engineer to create a map of the church and provide architectural documentation. The researcher chose this church, which belongs to the Franciscan Order, because it has a European character, as the Franciscans are of Italian origin. This distinguishes it from other sects, as we will explain in detail below.
