From Elementary to Advanced Design of Functional Metal–Organic Frameworks: A User Guide to Deciphering the Reticular Chemistry Toolbox (Adv. Mater. 52/2025)

Design in Reticular Chemistry at its Finest The wealth of knowledge accumulated through years of design in reticular chemistry has become an invaluable toolbox for molecular architects. This review outlines design approaches that can be mastered individually and combined to enrich the repertoire of reticular chemistry with a wide spectrum of functional materials. The cover showcases In-sod-ZMOF-327, illustrating how summoning topology knowledge, molecular and supermolecular building blocks, the geometry mismatch concept, and structure-directing agents brings reticular chemistry design to its pinnacle. Light rays emanate as a beacon, guiding chemists as it once guided explorers at sea, toward the creation of tailor-made materials for the future. More details can be found in the Review by Vincent Guillerm, Mohamed Eddaoudi, and co-workers (DOI: 10.1002/adma.202414153).
