Role of nanotechnology in endodontics: A comprehensive literature review
Nanotechnology presents groundbreaking advancements in endodontics, revolutionizing diagnosis, disinfection, regeneration, and pain management. This review elucidates the transformative role of nanotechnology in endodontic practice. A thorough literature search was conducted in major biomedical databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The selection of studies was based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Nanotechnology-enhanced diagnostic imaging utilizes nanoparticle-based contrast agents and multimodal platforms, enabling precise visualization of dental structures and pathologies. Nanotechnology facilitates effective endodontic disinfection through nanoparticle-based irrigants, sealers, and medicaments, ensuring microbial elimination and tissue healing. In endodontic regeneration, nanoscaffolds, nanoparticle-mediated growth factors, and stem cell therapy promote pulp tissue revitalization and dentin formation. Nanotechnology in endodontic pain management employs nanoparticle-based analgesic delivery and anti-inflammatory nanomaterials. Interdisciplinary collaboration and translational research are pivotal for translating these innovations into clinical applications. Endodontics enters an era of precision, efficacy, and patient-centric care through nanotechnology, heralding a paradigm shift in dental therapeutics.
