One‐Step Tunable Human Hair Keratin Gradient Hydrogel with Antibacterial Activity for Tissue Engineering (Small 52/2025)
Tissue Engineering A gradient hydrogel made from human hair extracted keratins is formed via diffusion-mediated silver-thiolate complexation process, driven by keratin's naturally occurring high cysteine content. This single-step platform offers tuneable gradient hydrogel properties, antibacterial activity and supports extracellular matrix production in vitro. Enhanced collagen production, re-epithelization and minimal host tissue response in vivo confirm its potential for full-thickness skin tissue regeneration.
