Incidence of Haemodialysis Complications During Sessions for Critically Ill Patients
Background critically ill patients undergoing haemodialysis are highly vulnerable to various systemic complications due to their unstable clinical conditions and the physiological effects of the dialysis procedure. These complications may include cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal and vascular access related complications. Aim: to assess the incidence of haemodialysis complications during sessions for critically ill patients. Research design: descriptive observational study conducted in Haemodialysis Unit at Assiut university hospital. Subjects: Observational study that included 60 maintenance haemodialysis of both genders ,aged between 20-60 years. Tool for data collection: Haemodialysis complications Assessment. Results: the mean age of patients were 45.27±6.96 and (60.0%) of them were male and admitted in coronary care unit, the majority of patient (40.0%) suffering from hypertension and (80.0%) the number of dialysis session three/ week. Conclusions: In the study the most frequently observed complications were anaemia, affecting about two third of patients, followed by hypoxemia and intradialytic hypotension. Recommendations: Nurses should prioritize comprehensive assessment, patient education, and timely care coordination to prevent and manage complications in patients on haemodialysis.
