Development of Membrane Electrodes for the Specific Determination of Etilefrine and Sertraline in Dosage Forms and Biological Fluids

Two novel potentiometric sensors have been constructed for assessment of etilefrine and sertraline utilizing dibenzo-24-crown-8 (DB24C8) as ionophore and neutral carrier plasticized with o-nitrophenyl octyl ether and embedded in poly(vinyl chloride) matrix membrane. The dibenzo-24-crown-8-based sensor exhibits a strong response for etilefrine and sertraline with detection limit of 7.0x10-5 mol L-1, 4.0x10-5 mol L-1 and a cationic slope of 58 mV decade-1, 55 mV decade-1, respectively. The impact of interferents on the sensor’s response demonstrates high selectivity for drugs over numerous inorganic cations. The suitable pH range for the sensor is 3-6, with a rapid response time (11 s), and extended lifespan (10 weeks). The dibenzo-24-crown-8-based sensor is effectively employed for the quantification of the examined drugs.
