Implementation of TPACK in English Language Learning (Writing) to Improve Junior High School Students' Creativity
Abstract: The rapid development of technology in today's digital era requires educators or teachers to integrate the use of technology into learning and requires students to have Creative,Collaborative, Critical Thinking, Communication (4C) skills in order to adapt to currentdevelopments. However, the integration of technology into learning still faces several obstaclesthat must be overcome, such as a lack of access to adequate technology and networks, as wellas a lack of teacher competence in effectively integrating the use of technology into learning. In addition, in the context of English language learning, especially in writing skills, it has beenfound that students often experience many obstacles, such as difficult language, difficultydeveloping ideas, limited vocabulary, and errors in grammar when writing. This causes lowstudent motivation, which can affect student learning outcomes. Therefore, a solution is neededto overcome these challenges. One solution is the implementation of the TechnologyPedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) method developed by Mishra & Koehler inlearning. This can be proven by several previous studies that confirm that TPACK is able tocomprehensively combine content, pedagogy, and technology, which can increase motivationand develop students' 4C skills. In this study, the author used a literature review method byreviewing several recent articles relevant to the topic “Implementation of TPACK in Englishwriting learning to improve junior high school students' creativity” in order to provide a clearpicture that TPACK can help the effective use of technology in learning. This study was ableto create interactive, collaborative, and creative English writing learning through the use ofTPACK-based technology with “digital storytelling” writing activities. The use of technologysuch as Google Docs and Canva can make learning interactive, and the mastery of content andmethods used by teachers in accordance with student needs can foster student motivation tolearn. These findings show that the implementation of TPACK not only increases studentcreativity but also improves critical thinking and student motivation to learn.
