FOREIGN EXPERIENCE OF HUMAN ODOUR TRACES FORENSIC INVESTIGATIONS USING INSTRUMENTAL PHYSICO-CHEMICAL ANALYSIS METHODS

Identifying the scent of individuals using specially trained dogs is a well-known forensic technique that is often used in criminal investigations. However, to date, there are a limited number of physico-chemical instrumental studies of the chemical components present in the human odor and their applicability to identify specific people. This problem is relevant not only for domestic, but also for foreign criminologists. This article is an overview of the latest foreign forensic studies that dealt with human odor traces. It presents the main methods of sampling and preparation of samples used abroad, instrumental analysis, compounds identified in human odor traces, and methods for analyzing the data obtained. Instrumental methods are particularly considered, including new developments such as two-dimensional gas chromatography, which opens up wide possibilities for collecting more criminologically significant information about human odour traces.
