SMART PNEUMATIC COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM IN VEHICLE

Road accidents caused by delayed human reaction remain a major safety concern in modern transportation systems. This paper presents the design and development of a smart pneumatic collision avoidance system for vehicles, aimed at automatically preventing collisions through rapid braking action. The proposed system employs an ultrasonic or infrared sensor to continuously monitor obstacles ahead of the vehicle. When an obstacle is detected within a predefined safety distance, the sensor transmits signals to a microcontroller, which processes the data and activates a solenoid valve. Compressed air from a pneumatic source is then supplied to a pneumatic cylinder, which applies the vehicle brake through a mechanical linkage. This automated response significantly reduces braking time compared to manual operation and enhances overall vehicle safety. The system is designed to function only during emergency conditions, ensuring normal driver control under regular driving situations. Due to its simple construction, low cost, and fast response, the proposed system is suitable for passenger vehicles, heavy vehicles, and industrial transport applications. The results demonstrate that pneumatic actuation provides a reliable and efficient solution for collision avoidance, making the system a practical and economical alternative to complex electronic braking technologies.
