ψ₀–Time: A Pre–Spatiotemporal Ordering Mechanism
This paper introduces ψ₀–time, a foundational physical construct that replaces fundamental temporal parameters with a non-dimensional causal ordering mechanism. Unlike conventional time, ψ₀–time does not rely on duration, metric structure, clocks, or spacetime locality. Instead, it provides primitive causal precedence applicable in pre-spatiotemporal regimes where standard temporal concepts fail. Within this framework, conventional 3+1-dimensional spacetime time is not rejected but reinterpreted as an emergent macroscopic phenomenon arising only within stabilized regimes where spacetime geometry becomes well-defined. Duration, flow, and temporal direction are shown to be secondary features of persistent ordering rather than fundamental inputs to physical law. The paper establishes a clear ontological hierarchy between ψ₀–time and standard spacetime time, resolving long-standing inconsistencies across classical mechanics, quantum theory, and general relativity regarding the status of time. Emphasis is placed on conceptual priority and functional classification rather than premature dynamical formalisation. This work defines the minimal ontological structure required for causal ordering in theories where time is absent at the fundamental level but reappears emergently, and establishes priority for this class of pre-spatiotemporal ordering mechanisms.
