Endoscopic Endonasal Resection of Sphenoid Sinus Craniopharyngioma in a Pediatric Patient
Craniopharyngiomas are most commonly found in the sellar region, and those originating in the sphenoid sinus cavity are extremely rare. The authors report a case of a 15-year-old female presenting with headache and progressive visual deterioration. Imaging revealed a cystic-solid lesion involving the sphenoid sinus, sella, and clivus, with significant bony erosion and optic chiasm compression. The patient underwent endoscopic endonasal resection, with pathology confirming craniopharyngioma. Postoperative course was notable for dynamic endocrine changes that stabilized within 1 week, leading to successful recovery. This case highlights the value of a minimally invasive endoscopic approach for complex pediatric skull base tumors and underscores the importance of perioperative hormonal management.
