Efficacy of Unani Treatment and Leech Therapy in Buerger’s Disease
Abstract Buerger’s disease is related with ulcers in the extremities with the likelihood of amputation due to severe ischemia. The disease prevalence among all patients with peripheral arterial disease ranged from 5%–10%. Despite its serious consequences, there is limited understanding of the variability in clinical presentation and treatment responses in patients with Buerger’s disease. A better knowledge of the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes could lead to more efficient disease management and improved diagnostic strategies. Here, it is a case report of a 52 year old male patient who came with complaints of severe pain and nonhealing arterial ulcer with starting of gangrenous changes over the left great toe for 9 months with a diagnosis of Buerger’s disease. According to Unani aspect it is clinically correlated to Amraz Saudavi , owing to the Suda (obstruction) pathology and managed effectively with Munzij Sauda (purgative), Tanqiya Dam (bloodletting), Tasfia Dam (blood purification) which saved him from amputation. This study aims to explore the clinical progression, response to treatment, and long-term outcomes in patients diagnosed with Buerger’s disease.
