Structural Design of Well Foundations on Slopes for Static and Seismic Conditions Considering V – H – M Interaction
In this study, design forces in well foundations located on flat and sloping terrains were evaluated under the application of combined vertical (V), horizontal (H), and moment (M) loading. The distribution of bending moment and shear force in the well foundation, due to the applied load and mobilized lateral earth pressure, was determined for embedment depth ratios D/B = 1 and 3. Ovalization moments occurring in the well steining were also studied. The effect of slope inclination (β = 10° and 20°) on the design forces and moments was investigated and compared with foundations located on flat ground. The effect of horizontal seismic loading on the pressure distribution and design forces was also studied and compared for foundations supported on flat ground and on slopes. An analytical procedure to determine the ovalization moments in the well steining was proposed and compared with the numerical results.
