Temporal Shift Symmetry, Noether Currents, and Renormalization Flow in the Scalar Temporal Field Ontology
he Scalar Temporal Field Ontology (STFO) models time as a dynamical scalar fieldwhose spacetime gradients generate physical ordering and causal structure. Building onthe effective field theory and matter-coupled formulation of STFO, this work analyzes thesymmetry and renormalization structure associated with the temporal scalar field. We identify conditions under which the theory admits a global temporal shift symmetry, derive theassociated Noether current and conserved temporal charge, and examine how temporal-field-dependent operators evolve under renormalization group flow. We show that the presence orabsence of temporal shift symmetry sharply constrains viable interaction sectors and leadsto environment-dependent renormalization behavior. These results expose new structuralquestions at the intersection of time, symmetry, and quantum field theory.
