Remittances, Education, and Food Security in Developing Countries
ABSTRACT This paper assesses the impacts of remittances on food security for 81 developing countries for the period 2012–2020. It finds that remittances promote food security, and that education is a channel for remittances to promote food security. The total impact of remittances on food security, given a 10% increase in per capita remittances, ranges from 0.17% to 0.21%, whereas the impact of remittances through education is 0.08%. Also, education promotes food security. Developing countries should adopt policies that lower the costs of remittances and promote education to enhance the impact of remittances on food security.
