The skin of architecture: contemporary ceramic design in geometric style
The application of geometry in architectural design enhances buildings’ visual appeal and aesthetic expressions. However, the widespread use of tempered glass for building façades worldwide exacerbates design homogeneity. Ceramics, with their unique cultural carrying capacity and modern design expressiveness, have drawn global architects’ attention. This paper explores the innovative application of ceramic materials in façade design based on a practical geometric framework, aiming to expand architectural possibilities. By analyzing typical cases from Spain, the US, the Netherlands, and China, and practical projects in Shanghai and Zhuhai, it verifies the feasibility and value of ceramic façades, offering insights for breaking architectural homogeneity and inspiring cultural and aesthetic innovation.
