Management of Argentina flag sign in intumescent soft cataract
The Argentina flag sign is a well-recognized intraoperative complication in intumescent cataracts, resulting from elevated intralenticular pressure. When this occurs, the central white cataractous lens with a stained blue capsule on either side resembles the Argentina flag. This event carries a significant risk of posterior capsular extension and potential nucleus drop. Timely and appropriate intraoperative measures are therefore crucial to prevent further complications. In this report, we present the management of an Argentina flag sign in an intumescent soft cataract in a 25-year-old young patient with coexisting Fuchs’ heterochromic iridocyclitis in the same eye.
