An enigmatic partially sine-pigmento pupillary strand

Persistent pupillary membrane (PPM) is embryologically derived from the anterior vascular sheath due to its nonregression during intrauterine development. Though visually insignificant in most cases, if dense, it can lead to diminished vision. It can be a source of hyphema if vascularized. This photoessay describes an isolated partly pigmented PPM strand in a young patient which presented as an incidental finding.

Abstract

Persistent pupillary membrane (PPM) is embryologically derived from the anterior vascular sheath due to its nonregression during intrauterine development. Though visually insignificant in most cases, if dense, it can lead to diminished vision. It can be a source of hyphema if vascularized. This photoessay describes an isolated partly pigmented PPM strand in a young patient which presented as an incidental finding.
