Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidney in Allograft Kidney – A Rare Case Report
Renal transplant recipients have an increased risk of developing malignancies, and rhabdoid tumor of the kidney, a rare tumor with dismal outcomes, has been reported in the transplanted kidney only twice in the literature. We report a 56-year-old female who received a dual en bloc kidney transplant from a 14-month-old infant donor. She developed a mass in the left kidney of the dual en bloc allograft which on histology showed a small blue round cell tumor with rhabdoid morphology and loss of INI-1 expression on immunohistochemistry. A diagnosis of rhabdoid tumor of the kidney was made. This case report emphasizes the importance of screening the donor for malignancies, especially infant donors and meticulous follow-up of recipients.
