Identifying Barriers to Implementing Circular Supply Chains in Turmeric Production in Chi Minh Commune, Hung Yen Province and Implications from Korean Experience

Abstract: The construction and practice of circular supply chains in agriculture is considered one of the important solutions to increase added value, reduce waste, and move towards sustainable development. This solution becomes more urgent when developing a circular economy is becoming a strategic orientation of Vietnamese agriculture in the context of green transformation. Circular supply chains not only include the production process but also involve the reuse, recycling and reintegration of agricultural by-products, thereby creating an efficient and environmentally friendly production model. Among agricultural products, turmeric is a specialty crop in many localities, notably in Chi Minh commune (Hung Yen province) with a large cultivation area and output. Turmeric is not only used as a raw material for food and medicinal herbs, but also has the potential to develop deeply processed products, bringing high economic value. Currently, turmeric production in Hung Yen is still mainly based on small-scale households, traditional processes, little application of technology, and limitations in preservation, processing of by-products and market linkage. This article will focus on analyzing some barriers in practicing circular supply chains in turmeric production activities in Chi Minh commune, Hung Yen province and propose the application of Korean lessons in applying high technology and promoting the role of cooperatives and farmer organizations that can help overcome these barriers. Keywords: Barriers, circular supply chains, turmeric production activities, agricultural production.
