Successful Renal Transplantation from a Pediatric Donor with Suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

We report a successful renal transplantation from a 13-year-old deceased donor with suspected severe carbon monoxide poisoning into a 49-year-old adult recipient with end-stage kidney disease secondary to autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. The recipient had a history of previous graft loss and was on maintenance hemodialysis. Despite initial delayed graft function, there was recovery of renal function with stable graft function. This case demonstrates the growing evidence supporting the utilization of organs from poisoned donors and pediatric deceased donors under careful selection criteria and monitoring.
