The Use of Collaborative Writing to Enhance the Creativity and Writing Skills of Junior High School Students in English Classes

Writing is one of the key skills needed to learn English. Yet, many junior high school students face difficulties in generating ideas, structuring paragraphs, and using grammar correctly. Collaborative writing is an effective way to tackle these challenges. It allows students to speak, share ideas, and develop texts together. This method meets the national curriculum's focus on creativity and collaboration, which are important skills for modern learning. The findings indicate that every stage of the writing process, from preparation to reflection, encourages students to think critically, be creative, and work together to improve their writing. Previous research has shown that social interactions and group discussions can boost writing skills. Mustafa et al. (2016) pointed out that junior high school students often make mistakes in grammar and organizing ideas. A collaborative approach can help reduce these issues. Kurniasih and Sani (2023) also stressed the importance of learning models that engage students as active participants. This encourages them to think creatively and develop their ideas. Further findings from Olimovna (2023) support the idea that working together helps students improve vocabulary, editing, and revising during the writing process. This study uses library research to explore theories, findings, and models of collaborative writing in junior high school English classes. Overall, the study shows that collaborative writing is a practical teaching method that effectively improves students' writing skills, creativity, and ability to work together.
