Renal Allograft Malakoplakia: An Uncommon Late Complication
Malakoplakia is a rare inflammatory condition mainly affecting the genitourinary system. Renal allograft malakoplakia is even rarer, with only a few case reports in the literature. The pathogenesis is linked to chronic infection, like Escherichia coli . The condition is characterized histologically by the presence of pathognomonic Michaelis–Gutmann bodies. Here we report a case of graft kidney malakoplakia presenting 7 years after kidney transplantation, leading to graft loss and initiation of maintenance hemodialysis.
