Total Determinism: A Unified Philosophical Framework on the Complete Determinacy of the Universe
The existence of precognitive phenomena empirically suggests a certain degree of determinacy in the development and transformation of all things in the universe. However, the extent of this determinacy has remained a core and contentious issue in philosophy, religion, and science. This paper proposes "Total Determinism" as a novel and thorough philosophical system of determinism, aiming to provide a coherent and comprehensive resolution to this ancient problem. The central tenet of Total Determinism is that the entire process—from origination to development and eventual cessation (hereafter referred to as the "full course")—of any entity in the universe, regardless of its scale, form (physical or non-physical), or the visibility of its processes, is entirely predetermined. Crucially, this theory explicitly posits that human thought, consciousness, and even so-called "free will" are inseparable and preordained components of this "full course." By introducing two core concepts, the "Total Laws" and the "Totally-Determined Field," this paper systematically elucidates how Total Determinism dialectically unifies traditional binary oppositions such as necessity and chance, determinism and freedom. It further argues for the theory's value as a grand synthesis of various Eastern and Western, as well as scientific, perspectives on fate. Total Determinism not only offers a self-consistent framework for explaining precognitive phenomena but also opens a new path for understanding the relationship between matter and mind, and for reconciling materialist and idealist worldviews.
