Peer review Kepler Harmonies and Conformal Symmetries-Gary Gibbons Cambridge
This work presents a formal critical assessment of the paper “Kepler Harmonies and Conformal Symmetries”, focusing on the conceptual and variational structure underlying the proposed geometric formulation of the Kepler problem. The analysis examines the use of higher-dimensional Bargmann embeddings, null-geodesic constraints, and conformal symmetries, and evaluates whether the resulting conserved quantities correspond to genuine physical observables of the original Kepler dynamics. It is shown that the claimed symmetries and conservation laws arise only after an ad hoc extension of the dynamical system and do not emerge from a closed variational principle intrinsic to the physical problem. As a consequence, the construction constitutes a formal geometric reformulation rather than a physical explanation or extension of Keplerian dynamics. The assessment clarifies the distinction between mathematical elegance and physical closure, and highlights the necessity of intrinsic variational foundations for claims of emergent symmetry in fundamental physics.
