Design of Stiffness Variable Tuned Mass Damper for Iced Power Transmission Lines

To address the sharp decline in vibration suppression performance caused by frequency shifts in iced transmission lines, this paper proposes a Stiffness Variable-Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). Unlike traditional dampers with fixed parameters, the TMD features a tunable stiffness mechanism configured via structural parameter adjustments, allowing its natural frequency to match the shifting modal frequencies of conductors under various icing conditions. A dual-end configuration strategy is further developed to broaden the effective damping bandwidth and enhance system robustness. Numerical simulations and experimental analyses verify that the proposed design significantly outperforms conventional solutions by maintaining high damping efficiency across a wider frequency range. Specifically, under the optimal dual-end configuration (with the left-end beam tuned to 125[Formula: see text]mm and the right-end to 110[Formula: see text]mm), the maximum amplitude attenuation reaches 80.6%, effectively mitigating vibrations and ensuring line safety under complex icing scenarios available.
