Abstract: In "Laisser traces, entre mémoire et histoire" Kitouni Hosni explores the intimate relationship between family memory and historical writing through two photos of his father taken during the war of independence. These photos, one taken before he left to join the resistance and the other during the struggle, bear witness to his father's "instinct for history" and his mother's sense of the importance of archives as the guardian of family memories. The author shows how these images transcend their documentary value to become a narrative and symbol of resistance to colonial erasure. By tracing the lineage and transmission of knowledge through a handwritten Koran, he reveals a parallel struggle against the falsification of identity imposed by the colonial civil registry. The last "non-photo", that of his father's dead body, closes the narrative on the tension between personal memory and official memory. Thus, Kitouni makes history an act of fidelity and filiation, where chance and necessity intertwine to save the traces of a life devoted to freedom.
