Detection of Uropathogenic Bacteria in the Samples of Iraqi Male Patients

Prostate disease is found in elderly persons, the prostate is a male reproduction organ. It is approximately the size of a plum that may be found near the bladder’s base. It is the primary cause of the three commonest diseases: prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and prostate cancer (PC). This study designed to identify the uropathogenic bacteria that caused prostate disorders in Iraqi male samples. A current study included 180 subjects from the Iraqi population, 135 patients were divided into three groups (prostate cancer, benign prostate hyperplasia and prostatitis), according to signs, symptoms and diagnosis by the physician each group consisted of 45 participants and 45 healthy controls. The results of the urine culture revealed that all 45 urine samples of healthy individuals had negative bacterial cultures, whereas (89.6%) patients with positive cultures and only (10.37%) with negative cultures. While, the gram staining and microscopic analysis of bacterial colonies isolated from urine samples revealed that (10.7%) were gram positive bacteria and (89.3%) were gram negative. After diagnosis by the VITEK2 system, this showed that Staphylococcus aureus (10.7%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (5.8%), Proteus mirabilis (7.5%), Klebsiella pneumonia (10.7%), and E. coli (65.3%) were the infectious agents responsible for UTI cases. In conclude efficient pathogenicity resulting from multiple virulence factors and multi-antibiotics resistance E.coli is the most common bacterial species that cause prostatitis.
