Abstract: Four photographs shaped the image of my paternal grandparents' wedding day, on July 6, 1957, at the Great Synagogue of Oran. One day, I realized that they were probably not taken on the same day nor in the same place. While my entire family left Algeria at the end of 1961, believing they would never return, I find myself, sixty-five years later, standing before that synagogue: I question these images and the words I have heard a thousand times over. Can I question this heritage?

Abstract

Abstract: Four photographs shaped the image of my paternal grandparents' wedding day, on July 6, 1957, at the Great Synagogue of Oran. One day, I realized that they were probably not taken on the same day nor in the same place. While my entire family left Algeria at the end of 1961, believing they would never return, I find myself, sixty-five years later, standing before that synagogue: I question these images and the words I have heard a thousand times over. Can I question this heritage?
