The Family Proposal Wall: A Relational Design Structure for Shared Decision-Making in Families
Contemporary family decision-making often struggles with power imbalance, emotional pressure, and unequal participation across age groups. This paper introduces the Family Proposal Wall, a public visual template designed as a relational infrastructure rather than a decision-making tool. The proposal wall provides equal spatial positions for each family member, allowing individual proposals to move gradually toward a shared center through visible, non-linear paths. Instead of enforcing discussion order or consensus outcomes, the design prioritizes emotional safety, temporal flexibility, and mutual visibility of thought processes.Developed as an open template, the Family Proposal Wall is intended for reuse, adaptation, and everyday domestic settings. This paper outlines the design principles, structural logic, and usage scenarios of the proposal wall, arguing that relationship-oriented design can sustain family dialogue without requiring resolution or agreement as its primary goal.
