Design of plasma-assisted ball milling device based on atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge

High energy ball milling is a key process for preparing high-performance ceramic powders, but traditional methods have low efficiency, high energy consumption, and are prone to powder contamination. The physical-field assisted ball milling technology, especially plasma assisted ball milling, has received widespread attention due to its thermal effects, which can significantly improve efficiency and avoid pollution. However, traditional drum type devices suffer from powder aggregation due to centrifugal effects, which limits the effective contacting between powder and plasma, thereby restricting efficiency improvement. In response to this issue, this study innovatively transforms the ZZSM acoustic resonance mixer platform into a vibrating plasma assisted ball mill with high vibration frequency and acceleration based on atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge technology. This not only breaks the structural bottleneck of traditional drum type devices, but also achieves multi-field synergistic effects of acoustic vibration energy, mechanical collision energy, and plasma electric field energy on material powders. This paper focuses on the design and implementation of plasma discharge system in the ball mill and conducts preliminary experimental verification.
